Version 1 · Living document
ECO is the native cryptocurrency of the Eco Network ecosystem. This paper describes what the network is, how it works today, what ECO is intended to be used for as the ecosystem is developed, and where the project deliberately stops. It is written to be read by a member of the network.
Where the project stands. Eco Network is in its distribution phase. ECO is being distributed to members through participation in the network, and the community is being built. The token's utilities — payments, ECO Market, ECO Pay, services, governance — are introduced progressively, as the infrastructure for each one is built. Section 8 sets them out in full.
Cryptocurrency has become simultaneously famous and inaccessible. Three barriers explain most of it.
Mining excludes almost everyone. Proof of work rewards whoever can buy the most hardware and the cheapest electricity. It is industrial, capital-intensive and energy-hungry. An individual with a phone is not a participant in that system; they are a spectator.
Acquiring a first token means risking money. The ordinary path is to open an exchange account, pass identity checks, deposit funds and buy. For someone who simply wants to understand what this is, that is an expensive first step, taken on trust in a platform they have not yet learned to evaluate.
Most tokens have nowhere to be spent. A token whose only use is to be traded depends entirely on someone else wanting it. Eco Network starts from the opposite end: build the uses, so that the token has a function inside its own economy.
Eco Network is the ecosystem built around the ECO cryptocurrency. Its aim is to build, step by step, a digital economy in which ECO has concrete uses and can be used across the ecosystem's services.
The project is built in order, and the order matters:
Its boundaries are as deliberate as its features:
Proof of work answers the question "who spent the most computation?". Eco Network asks a different question: "who is genuinely, repeatedly taking part?" That question does not need a processor to answer it. It needs an identity, a clock, and a server that cannot be lied to.
Because nothing is computed on it. The device sends two requests over the session's lifetime — "start" and "claim" — and displays a countdown between them. There is no background process, no hashing, no wake lock. This is not an optimisation; it is the design. A model in which a phone had to work would be worse for the member, worse for their battery, and worse for the planet, and it would exclude exactly the people this network exists for.
Every member starts on the same base rate. Only one thing raises it: the number of people you have brought in who genuinely take part. Each active referral adds 5% to your rate, up to a hard ceiling of +50%. There is no other multiplier in the system — nothing you can watch, pay for, or wait for will change what a session produces.
This is worth stating plainly because it is unusual: no advertisement in Eco Network affects your production. Watching one gives you nothing extra; refusing every single one costs you nothing. See section 10.
Eco Network has three parts, with a strict division of authority.
A native mobile application built with Flutter, from a single codebase. It holds no authority over the economy. It displays state, it asks the server to act, and it caches data so the app stays usable on a slow or absent connection. Every balance it shows was computed elsewhere.
A dedicated service that is the sole writer of balances, sessions and referral attachments. The application authenticates each call with the member's identity token; the server verifies that token before doing anything. Every operation that touches the economy runs inside a database transaction with a deterministic identity, so that a retry, a lost response or a race between two devices can never credit the same thing twice.
Accounts are held by a managed authentication provider with mandatory email verification; profile and activity data live in a managed document database. Access rules on that database are restrictive by design: a member can read their own record and modify only a short, explicit list of presentation fields — display name, handle, biography, country, avatar, watchlist, notification tokens. Balance, session count, total mined and referrer are not in that list, and cannot be written from a device at all.
The practical consequence: changing your device clock, editing local storage, intercepting traffic or decompiling the application produces exactly zero ECO, and attaches exactly zero referrals. There is no client-side path into the economy to find.
The network grows by invitation, so the attachment between an inviter and the person they invited has to be correct every time. The rules are deliberately narrow.
An invitation link opens a page that hands the code to the application if it is installed, and points to the store if it is not — while always showing the code in readable form, so the invitation still works even if nothing opens automatically.
A network that measures participation is only meaningful if participation is genuine, and an economy built on that token is only meaningful if the distribution behind it was honest. Several mechanisms defend it, all enforced on the server:
ECO is the native token of the Eco Network ecosystem. In the current phase it also serves as a record of participation: how much a member has taken part — sessions completed, people genuinely brought in, presence over time.
Inside the member's Eco Network account. It is credited by the server when a session is claimed, and it accumulates as the member keeps taking part. The application currently has no purchase, no transfer and no exchange: in this phase, ECO is received by participating.
Papers in this field routinely publish a maximum supply, a distribution breakdown, an emission curve and a calendar. We publish none of them, and the reason is not modesty — it is that those numbers, published early, are read as commitments and as a valuation. A supply figure invites people to divide it into an imagined market capitalisation. A calendar invites people to wait for a date, and to feel deceived when reality moves.
We would rather publish what a member can verify from inside the app today: the session duration, the fact that the base rate is identical for everyone, the exact referral bonus and its ceiling, and the fact that no advertisement can alter any of it. Those are rules you can check right now. Figures and schedules will be published if and when they describe something real.
Two habits worth keeping. Eco Network will never ask you to pay a fee to unlock or release a balance, and will never ask you for your password or a recovery code — not by email, not by message, not by phone. And anything announced in our name that does not appear on this site or in the application does not come from us.
ECO is the native token of the Eco Network ecosystem. The aim of Eco Network is to build, progressively, a digital economy in which the ECO token has concrete utilities and can be used across the ecosystem's different services.
The current mining phase serves to distribute ECO to users progressively and to build a community, before the full expansion of the ecosystem. The utilities of ECO will be introduced progressively as the network is developed.
ECO will be usable as a means of payment within the Eco Network ecosystem. Users will be able to use their ECO to make payments to one another and, eventually, to merchants and providers integrated into the network.
Examples of use:
The objective is for ECO to function as a digital currency usable in the real and digital economy.
ECO Market will be a marketplace allowing members of the ecosystem to offer and buy products and services using ECO. Sellers will be able to publish their offers and receive payment in ECO.
Users will be able to:
ECO Market aims to create a circular economy inside the network. A user can earn ECO, use it to buy a product or a service, and the seller can in turn use that ECO elsewhere in the ecosystem.
ECO Pay will be the payment solution of the Eco Network ecosystem. It will let users and merchants carry out transactions in ECO simply and quickly.
Its features may include:
ECO Pay is intended to act as the bridge between the ECO token and the commercial activity of the ecosystem.
ECO will be usable to access certain digital services offered within the ecosystem. Some features or services may require payment in ECO.
Examples:
This use creates functional demand for ECO, independently of any value it may have on external markets.
Eco Network may host different applications using ECO as a means of exchange or as a mechanism for accessing certain services. Developers will be able to build applications for the ECO ecosystem.
Those applications may cover:
The objective is to make ECO a currency usable across several applications, rather than a token confined to a single platform.
ECO may be used as a reward mechanism within the ecosystem. Rewards may be granted to users who contribute to the development and the activity of the network.
Depending on the rules of the protocol, eligible contributions may include:
The reward system will be designed to favour useful contributions rather than the artificial creation of accounts.
Businesses and merchants integrated into Eco Network will be able to use ECO in their loyalty programmes. Users may receive ECO as a reward for certain actions, such as:
This lets businesses use ECO as a customer-retention tool inside the ecosystem.
As the network evolves, ECO may take part in certain governance mechanisms of the ecosystem. Eligible holders may eventually take part in decisions concerning certain aspects of the network's development.
Governance topics may include:
The exact governance arrangements will be defined during later phases of the network's development.
Eco Network may offer services aimed at businesses and merchants. Businesses will be able to use ECO for certain operations within the ecosystem, in particular:
Businesses will therefore be able to integrate ECO into their digital and commercial activity.
ECO may be used in Eco Network's promotional system. Businesses will be able to spend ECO to promote their products, services or listings to users of the network.
Examples:
Depending on the future rules of the protocol, part of the ECO used for certain services may be redistributed to the ecosystem, to service providers, or possibly removed from circulation.
Certain advanced features of the ecosystem may require holding or spending ECO. The token may therefore act as an access mechanism to certain services.
Possible examples:
The exact conditions will be defined as development progresses.
One of the fundamental objectives of Eco Network is to create a circular economy around the ECO token. The model being pursued is:
Distribution → Use → Transactions → Commerce → Reuse
Users can receive ECO through the mechanisms provided by the network. They can then use that ECO to buy products, pay for services or access certain features. Businesses and sellers can receive ECO and, in turn, reuse it within the ecosystem.
This circulation is intended to give ECO, progressively, a utility that is independent of speculation on its price.
Certain operations or services may eventually require fees in ECO. Depending on how the protocol evolves, those fees may concern:
The fee structure will be determined during the various phases of development.
The utilities presented in this section are the main use cases envisaged for ECO. They will not necessarily be available at the same time. Eco Network takes a progressive approach, building the necessary infrastructure before introducing new features.
The long-term objective is an ecosystem in which ECO has several complementary functions:
Eco Network does not rest solely on the possibility of trading the token on external platforms. The project's vision is to develop internal utility and a functioning economy around ECO first.
ECO's use value must come from its progressive integration into the products, services, applications and commercial activity of the ecosystem. The development of the network therefore aims to create a relationship between:
Users → Utility → Transactions → Economy → Ecosystem
Trading ECO on exchange platforms may constitute an additional step in the project's development, but it does not, on its own, constitute the utility of the token.
The application shows real market data: cryptocurrencies, equities, commodities, indices and currency pairs. Crypto prices are streamed continuously and arrive without any action from the member; other classes are polled at a reasonable interval, since they trade on markets that close.
Three rules govern how this is presented, because the alternative is to mislead:
The application is free, and advertising funds it. That is stated openly because the way ads are used is a design decision, not a detail.
A member who never sees a single advertisement takes part exactly as much as one who sees every one of them.
The application collects what an account needs and nothing more: an email address, a name, and activity within the network — sessions, balance, referrals, watchlist. It does not collect contacts, precise location, photos or files. An advertising identifier is used by the advertising provider, as disclosed in the store listing.
A member can delete their account and its data at any time, from inside the application or from a public page, without contacting anyone. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
The network is built for the places where a mid-range phone on a slow connection is the normal case, not the exception.
Stating limits is not a weakness of a document like this one; omitting them is what makes such documents worthless.
Priorities are set by what members actually do, and changes ship when they are ready rather than when a calendar says so — which is why no dated roadmap appears here. The direction is nevertheless stated, so it can be judged later:
This paper is a living document. It is revised in place as the network changes, and its version number is raised when the substance changes.
